Handicraft Flow Challenge

Are you also familiar with that feeling? After coming home from work you always need a little motivation to pick up your craft work. No problem, allow us to be your motivation. In our Flow Challenge we regularly give you tips on how to complete one seam or a few rows each day and we accompany you bit by bit to the project target.

What you can do in general for a better flow

Quite simple: switch on your favourite music. Music helps us to release our thoughts and it changes our mood. Also, change out of uncomfortable garments and put on comfortable clothes, which do not pinch or constrict. Make a cup of tea or place something to drink beside you, so that you don't have to get up again.

Our tips for better flow when sewing

1. Cut out the pieces on the previous evening

You plan a project at the weekend and it annoys you that you have to spend half a day copying and cutting out? Then copy the step-by-step pattern the previous evening and cut it out before your project day. This saves stress and you can get started quickly.

2. Draw in the seam allowance in parallel

Use the parallel tracing wheel to copy your pattern and at the same time draw in your seam allowance. This saves time and you can start cutting out in the twinkling of an eye.

3. When using your own pattern always sew a test piece

You have seen a designer pattern and are keen to imitate it and produce your own pattern? When using your own pattern take the time to sew a test piece and make adjustments; the pattern frequently sits differently from what you expected.

Our tips for better flow when knitting

1. Place your stitch markers

You know what happens sometimes - you have a big project on the needles and then you miscount. The solution is stitch markers; place them every 20 stitches or at regular intervals. This means that you do not always have to start counting all over again after a moment's distraction.

2. Insert a safety thread

With complicated patterns it is always helpful to carry a safety thread along with the needle, because if you make a mistake, the pattern can simply be unravelled again.

3. Keep tension samples

Even with standard yarns it is worthwhile to keep your old tension samples, so that you do not have to knit another for your next project. To distinguish the tension samples more easily, it is a good idea to use little labels.
