A Sew Storage Basket with Compartments

Practical storage basket with multiple handles and a loop.

This basket is a real all-rounder - it not only has several compartments on the outside, but also a practical separation including a pocket on the inside and a handle for hanging. The storage basket is useful in many rooms, whether it is a workroom, children's room, or bathroom.

The finished dimensions are 13cm x 14cm x 15cm. The edge can be folded over if necessary.

Instruction:

Step 1

Download the pattern, cut it out and glue it together at the indicated points. The pattern and cutting instructions already include the seam allowance of 1 cm.

Draw the pattern pieces as indicated on the pattern template onto the outer fabric using the aqua marker and cut them to size.

Transfer the pattern pieces to the lining and interfacing and cut them.

Mark the center at the top as well as the position of the inside pocket and at the bottom of the pattern pieces with a snap.

Step 2

Place the outer fabric cut pieces wrong sides together on the glue dots of the interfacing. Use a cotton cloth to protect the ironing surface.

Fix the interfacing to the outer fabric using heat and light force.

Step 3

Fold over 1 cm of the long edge of the front pocket piece and press using the ironing ruler. Fold in another 1 cm and press it in place with the iron.

Topstitch the folded edge close to the edge.

Step 4

Place the bag on the basket cut piece. First place a seam along the bottom edge at the corners

Step 5

Draw a vertical line with the aqua marker in the center of the stitched pocket piece.

Stitch a vertical seam along the line.

Step 6

Place the outer fabric pieces right sides together. Close the sides and bottom with a 1 cm seam allowance.

Step 7

Unfold the basket and pin the corners seam to seam. Topstitch the corners with 1 cm seam.

Step 8

Place the two pocket pieces on top of each other, wrong sides together, and topstitch the long edges with a 1 cm seam.

Step 9

Turn the bag right side out. Press the seams flat and topstitch them close together. Fold the bag in half.

Step 10

Place the lining fabric pieces right sides together. Slide the folded inner pocket, with the opening facing up, sideways between the layers at the notches of the inner basket. Pin the layers in place and topstitch with 1 cm seam allowance.

Close the other side in the same way. Sew the bottom with a 1 cm seam allowance. Now close the corners of the lining basket.

Step 11

Press the long edges of the loop cut piece over by 1 cm using the ironing ruler.

Step 12

Fold the strip in half and topstitch both sides.

Step 13

Form the strip into a loop. Place the loop in the middle of the back wall of the basket. Orientate yourself on the notch. Topstitch this with 0.5 cm.

Step 14

Leave the outer fabric basket inside out and turn the basket right side out on waffle piqué. Now pin the lining basket into the outer fabric piece, seam to seam. Also make sure that the notches marking the center meet.

Close the seam with 1 cm seam allowance, leaving an opening of about 10 cm.

Step 15

Turn the basket right side out through the opening.

Press the edge flat. Topstitch the edge of the basket close to the edge.
